Recycled pants

I went to our local thrift store this past Saturday. They have a $5 bag day twice a month. I thought it would be like grocery sacks but they let you fill up a 13 gallon garbage bag with clothes and shoes for $5. I bought a bunch of T-shirts to make into cloth diapers. I was just really looking for clean/no holes shirts. I realized that I had picked up three shirts with long sleeves. I had also bought one pair of yellow baby pants size 3-6 months. I realized the cuff on the sleeves looked like the cuff on the baby pants. I did a bit of googling and figured out how to convert the shirt sleeves into pants.

I should have taken pictures of the process or at least before/after pictures. One of the shirts was a XXL so I was able to make my 5-yr-old pajama pants. They are super comfortable so he wore them last night. I just used one of his pajama pants for a pattern. I used the 3-6 month pants as a pattern for the two pairs of baby pants. I cut it an inch or so larger so that maybe it will fit 6-9 months so the baby can wear these this fall. I added 1/4 inch elastic to the waistband.

These are super simple to put together. It cost me less than a dollar for three pairs of pants. I’ll definitely be making more of these so I’ll try to remember to take pics next time of each part of the process.

I love my baby (or niece) {afghan}

I found this crochet sampler at Knit and Crochet Now. They have tons of free patterns. I had pink, purple and white yarn so I made this. I whipped out the first two blocks in no time and then they got tough. Waves and Bobbles, I never figured that one out so I made another checkerboard block in a different color.

As you may already know, our baby’s gender is a mystery. If it’s a girl, this will be her blanket. If not, I’ll hide it away til Christmas and give it to my niece.

I don’t think I’ll make this sampler again because it is very tedious to match up different stitched squares. However, I have learned a lot about crocheting through the process so I’m very glad I took this project on. I’ll definitely be using some of the techniques I learned in future projects.

I love my baby {knitted booties}

I made some knitted booties for the baby in a 3-6 month size. I was inspired from KnitandCrochetNow on PBS. It was really easy and I learned how to add different color yarn. This new skill inspired me to make some dish cloths so I added another color. I like the nice even stripes of the second photo but the ticking look of the first photo looks so country and nice.
